STAND UP PILATES

When I was searching for workouts to do while visiting Barcelona, I came across stand up pilates based out of the W Barcelona and immediately thought I had to give it a try. I have never even been on a paddle board before but I am ALWAYS willing to trying something new! Plus it seemed like such a shame to be doing basic workouts at basic gyms (which is what I was coming across while searching) when traveling to such a beautiful city like Barcelona.
The women who instructs the SUP at the W Barcelona is @ely_pilatessupbeach who is truly a beautiful soul and a burst of positive energy.
My 3 friends and I were lucky enough to have the session to ourselves, first meeting Ely at downstairs entrance that meets the beach at the W. From there we took our boards to the water and we paddled out to a calm spot and attached all our board to a rope so they didn’t move throughout the session.
I didn’t know what to expect but it was actually a killer workout combining flexibility, strength, mobility and balance. It was similar to mat pilates in terms of the poses but with way more stability involved which is SO awesome for core!! Near the end we did some partner work on one paddleboard which was challenging and a couple of us ended up in the water but it was all part of the fun! It was a beautiful experience being able to get in a workout on the water with the sunshine and I definitely recommend doing SUP at the W Barcelona when traveling to Barcelona!
